Dr. Jen Haugland has deep roots as a 6th generation Montanan. She was born and raised in the Gallatin Valley where her family still raises commercial beef cattle and hay. Growing up she was an active member of the 4H raising everything from rabbits to market steers. In high school she joined the FFA she quickly became a leader in the local chapter and competed in livestock judging, ag mechanics, farm business management, sale and service and public speaking. It was in these organizations she developed a passion for education and “the future of agriculture”. 

She attended Montana State University majoring Animal Science. Her favorite courses there were Meat Science, Animal Breeding and genetics, Animal nutrition, Beef Cattle Management, Equine Lameness, Equine & Beef Reproduction. During her undergrad studies and school breaks from veterinary school she worked as a large animal veterinary assistant with Sorensen Veterinary Hospital in Belgrade Montana from 2010 to 2017.

Dr. Haugland attended Colorado State University for her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She elected to track, focusing on large animal medicine, and sticking true to her roots as she has a special interest in food animal and equine medicine. Dr. Haugland was awarded the only Beef Clinical Proficiency Award of her class for her skills and knowledge in beef cattle medicine.

Dr. Haugland spent a year in Dillon Montana, being mentored by Dr. Ben Abbey at the Beaverhead Veterinary Clinic. There she was able to really grow as a large animal practitioner and hone her skills and love for bovine medicine.
